Google Review Automation
Nobody forgets to do the work. Everybody forgets to ask for the review.
In short
Review automation asks every customer for a review after the job, at the moment they are most likely to say yes, and reminds the ones who meant to and did not. Happy customers are routed straight to your Google listing, which is the rating that decides whether you show up in the local map pack at all.

Questions
Is it against Google's rules to ask for reviews?
No — asking is fine and encouraged. What is against the rules is review gating: filtering out unhappy customers so only good reviews reach Google. We do not build that.
When is the request sent?
After the job is marked complete, timed to the work rather than to a fixed hour. The window where someone is pleased and still thinking about it is short.
What about a bad experience?
Everyone gets the same request. What you get is the chance to hear about a problem through your own follow-up first and fix it — which is a better outcome than screening the review out.
